Marks, Thomas awarded design contract for Johns Hopkins apartment building.

Construction on a new 20-story building in East Baltimore is scheduled to start this summer, 2010. The 321 apartment, double occupancy building will be part if Johns Hopkins' Science & Technology Park, and will house the university's medical students. In addition to the living quarters, the unit will boast study rooms and fitness centers.

The design contract has been awarded to Baltimore's Marks, Thomas Architects, located on Key Highway. Developers have entrusted them to design a building which will receive a LEED silver rating. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a green-building certifiction system which recognizes design and construction of buildings which improves indoor environmental quality, water efficiency, energy savings and CO2 emmision reduction.
