On Tuesday, the New England Revolution re-signed midfielder Lee Nguyen, who is entering his third year with the team. Nguyen, 27, played in 63 matches for the Revs over the last two seasons, scoring nine goals and adding nine assists.

In other news, former Revs striker Marko Perovic is in preseason camp as an unsigned trialist and attempting to secure a contract on a second go-round with the club. In 2010 and 2011, Perovic scored seven goals and added four assists in 29 appearances.

The Revolution formerly kicked off preseason training and is away on the first of two preseason training trips. On Monday, the team departed for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where it will spend 12 days, from Jan. 27 through Feb. 7. The Revolution will play their first preseason action on Friday, Jan. 31, when the team faces Swedish club Malmo FF at IMG Academy.

After joining the Revolution in March 2012 via the Waiver Draft from Vancouver Whitecaps, Nguyen went on to earn the Revolution’s 2012 team MVP award by the club’s fans following a five-goal, two assist season and his goal against Vancouver was also one of four finalists for MLS Goal of the Year. In 2013, Nguyen made 33 starts and scored four goals while adding seven assists.

The former U.S. youth and senior international played in Europe and South East Asia before coming to MLS. He began his career in Holland with PSV Eindhoven before moving to Randers FC. Following two more seasons in Demark, he moved to Vietnam, where he played for Hoang Anh Gia and Becamex Binh Duong FC before returning to MLS.

Pierre Omanga, NSCAA Division II Player of the Year

In the final rounds of the MLS SuperDraft, the Revolution selected Southern New Hampshire’s Pierre Omanga, (third round, 50th overall), the 2013 NSCAA Division II Player of the Year. Omanga scored 21 goals and added three assists for SNHU in 2013 and scored the game-winning goal in the national championship game. Omanga enters camp unsigned and will try to earn a contract.
