Saturday, the 16th of August is another Market Day at Pier 15, the Exploratorium. It's free, and takes place at the pier's plaza from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. If you want to go inside the museum, you still have to purchase an admission ticket. This time Market Days is everything you ever wanted to know about dogs. There will even be some dogs for adoption from the SF SPCA, if you've been thinking about doing that. Better than that, though, you will learn all there is to know about our canine companions before you take that step for a 7 to 16 year commitment to the love and care of a pet.
The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine will be on hand to explore dog genetics and health with you. Find out what the skull of a dog can tell you about its history and health. You will get to see dogs doing choreographed dance steps, and displaying 'intelligent disobedience', among other tricks in the talent and skills shows. You'll get to meet the Exploratorium's 'staff dogs', find out about dog science, meet show dogs, and dogs with jobs. Yes, dogs do have jobs, search and rescue dogs, guide dogs for the blind, dogs that visit children's hospitals and senior homes, and even dogs that can 'sniff' changes in a person's blood sugar levels and alert them when their numbers are too low. You'll also get to 'meet' San Francisco 'dogs'...long time San Franciscans will know what I'm hinting towards...
You can bring your own dog, but they must be on a leash, and you are responsible for their behavior and cleaning up after them.
Market Days are the 3rd Saturday from June to October, they are free, with the intension of bringing together Exploratorium and community scientists, artists and educators with the public. They feature curated art, hands on exhibits, science demos, and craft displays.
So mark it on your calendar to come out and enjoy a Saturday at the Pier 15 Plaza with Exploratorium's Market Day, A Breed Apart
