Mark Zuckerberg, of Facebook fame and fortune, and his wife Priscilla Chan were the most generous Americans in 2013 by having donated nearly $1 billion to charity, according to an Inquisitr report on Monday. The Chronicle of Philanthropy released the data on Monday which put Zuckerberg and his physician bride at the top of the list of generous donors.

The pair donated some $992.2 million to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation which is located in San Mateo. According to the figures and report from The Chronicle of Philanthropy, this is the first time that persons under the age of 30 have topped the highest-donors’ list. Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, is 29 years old and his wife, Chan, is 28 years old.

However, from the list of the 50 top donors to charity, only seven of them were under the age of 50. By state, the most donors came from California, as there were 15 donors from there. New York came in second with 12 donors and Texas came in third with 5 donors. Additionally, the most money came from California as well.

Following Zuckerberg on the list, George Mitchell of Galveston, Texas – of energy and real estate wealth – came in second. In third place are Philip Knight and his wife Penelope of Portland, Oregon. Knight is the chairman of Nike.

The fourth place philanthropist is former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg who donated hundreds of millions of dollars in 2013 to education, the arts, the environment, public health as well as other causes.
