Facebook is hoping that things improve on their recently made public stock, but CEO Mark Zuckerberg already has future plans in mind. It appears as if the social media giant is looking to build the Facebook Phone for users and they're trying to gather up former Apple engineers behind the iPhone to do so.
The New York Times is reporting that Facebook isn't even posting job listings for the Facebook Phone project, but approaching people directly. A number of the of the people they have recruited so far were former Apple employees that worked on the iPhone and one that worked on the iPad.
Word is that Zuckerberg is asking them specific questions regarding the iPhone as well. He even wants to know what types of chips were used in them.
According to the New York Times report, one Facebook employee stated that the company originally believed they could figure out the phone hardware development on their own. It appears now that isn't the case since they're going after former Apple engineers.
“Mark is worried that if he doesn’t create a mobile phone in the near future that Facebook will simply become an app on other mobile platforms,” one Facebook employee said.
Zuckerberg and Facebook are said to be trying to woo web browser developer Opera who could be used for the Facebook Phone. The company already has a messenger service and a camera application with Instagram that they recently purchased.
Whether or not a Facebook Phone will come to life remains to be seen, but it certainly seems like a big possibility now.
