It's that time of year again...Chanukah and Christmas are just days away; and the New Year is close behind. People are reflecting about holidays gone by; and the loved ones they will either be missing this year, or the ones they will be hoping to share the holidays among. But what of the pets that lost their families in 2011? They will surely be yearning for the days when they were smelling the holiday cooking aromas from their family kitchen; and playing among the Christmas tree decorations or the wrappings from all the holiday gifts that were waiting to be wrapped, and then opened. Surely there was something waiting for them under the Christmas Tree, or after the candles were lit on the Chanukah Menorah.
Although the dogs now living at the Montgomery County Humane Society won't be sharing the joy of the holidays with their former families, they will be celebrating with the employees and volunteers at the MCHS that lovingly care for them every single day of the year. Thanks to the many supporters of the MCHS, donations are being accepted that will be distributed on Thursday, December 22, throughout the entire day. The peak of activity is planned between the hours of 2-4 pm. (PHOTOGRAPHERS AND MEDIA CREWS WELCOME)
Donations will be accepted through December 21 at the shelter on 14645 Rothgeb Drive, Rockville, MD 20850; and at Unleashed retail stores in Olney, Gaithersburg, and Aspen Hill. Please bring new blankets, bones, (please - no rawhide), toys, and anything else on the list at http://www.mchumane.org/WishList_000.shtml.
Once all the Wish List donations have been gathered, "Volunteer Dog Walkers will give extra walks to all dogs in the shelter and distribute "presents" throughout the day". Please, support the volunteers and employees of the Montgomery County Humane Society by donating Wish List items for the dogs living at the shelter while waiting for an adoptive family. For many of the dogs, cats, small mammels, and reptiles living at the MCHS, this could be their very last holiday season if they do not find a forever home during the upcoming year.
I would like to join the MCHS to give a special thank you to all of their Volunteer Dog Walkers; and the students of the British School of Washington and the Farmland Elementary School who have been collecting/making service projects that will be brought to the shelter in advance of the December 22 "Holiday with the Dogs" celebration.
