Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousads of times. Mark Twain
According to the latest statistics around 20% of Americans still smoke tobacco products. The numbers do not include those who smoke other products such as marijana or salmon but it does mean that a significant portion of the population is lighting up on a regular basis.
With increasing taxes, laws against smoking in public, and the general distain of smokers by many non-smokers it seems like the 1 in 5 people smoking would just QUIT.
Mark Twain was asked to limit his smoking to one cigar a day so he had huge cigars custom made for him. He also enjoyed a good pipe but was famous for the cigar in his mouth. He smoked on stage during his lecture tours and he smoked on the patio of his home in Hartford (The Mark Twain House), and he smoked when he traveled.
Of course, until recently it was popular to smoke even on television and in the movies. Most leading men and ladies on the big screen lit up. Many of them even were featured in advertisements for Camel, Chesterfield or Benson and Hedges.
I'm sure if Twain were alive today, he'd smoke. He might even blow smoke in the face of someone who told him to put it out.
