At last evening’s Fox News/Google Sept 22nd GOP Presidential debate, former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson knocked Obama’s record on job creation by delivering the best one-liner of the night:
“My next-door neighbor’s two dogs have created more shovel-ready jobs than this president.”
The line brought down the house and proved how conservative talk radio often puts its listeners ahead of the curve.
Substituting for Rush Limbaugh on Friday September 23rd, New York Times bestselling author Mark Steyn opened the program shortly after 12PM EST by poking fun at “Governor Gary” for paraphrasing the King of Talk Radio.
He mused that he thought he remembered Limbaugh speaking along similar lines the day before, though Rush would later comment on his Monday program that he was amused and surprised that both Politico and the Huffington Post seemed to have expected that he would be offended.
Indeed, Rush’s exact comment on September 22nd was that “my dogs have created more shovel-ready work than Obama has (chuckling) just this week alone. The new puppy. Honest to God. More shovel-ready work for me this week than Obama has created all two and a half years.”
The quip was made as Limbaugh criticized the President for attempting to sell a second infrastructure/jobs bill after Obama’s original Stimulus Package failed to generate employment through similar spending and investments in green energy companies such as (now bankrupt) Solyndra.
“The only thing got repaired with the first stimulus was a Democrat Party's infrastructure!” he exclaimed.
Limbaugh mocked Obama for visiting the Brent Spence Bridge connecting House Speaker Beohner and Mitch McConnell’s home states to sell his new infrastructure spending ‘to repair America’s roads and bridges’ after making a similar campaign speech in the swing state of North Carolina.
“I have a question: If Obama knows that there is a bridge that might collapse resulting in death, and in North Carolina ten days ago, last week, whenever it was, remember there were 153 [structurally deficient] bridges…if he knows that there is a bridge somewhere that might collapse, resulting in death, and he's gonna go stand next to it while people risk their lives driving back and forth across the bridge, why did he give $535 million to Solyndra and not spend that money fixing this bridge?”
