It was announced a couple months ago that Edward Norton would not be returning to play the role of Bruce Banner/Hulk for the new collaborative superhero effort, The Avengers. Fans were not too happy with having a third actor in the role for the third time in a row. Now though they've got a little something to be happy about.
Mark Ruffalo is who will be stepping in to fill the purple shorts of the Hulk, and he'll have to take on a bit more responsibility then Norton or Eric Bana did when they played the big green guy. Ruffalo has announced that unlike the previous Hulk movies when the creature was totally CGI, this new version will be motion-capture. Ruffalo will actually be playing the Hulk in The Avengers and making the movements his own.
"I’m really excited. No one’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI. They’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun," Ruffalo told Vulture.
Much like used in Avatar and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, motion-capture will actually allow Hulk to look more human and not just creation of a computer.
Ruffalo isn't just excited about being the monster though as he is thrilled at stepping into the shoes of Banner as well.
“I really love the first TV version of it, the Bill Bixby one. I’m gonna shoot for that a little bit. He was an everyman in it. He’s always on the run and trying to find love. It’s really a sympathetic character, before he turns into the Hulk and fucks everything up.”
Starring Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson; The Avengers is scheduld to begin filming in February and is due out May 4, 2012.

I see the fans point! I hate when sequels use different actors with each movie. It kind of kills the connection with the main character and the audience. People like to relate to the character and want it to be believable. When the actor constantly changes it makes the urgency to go see it kind of, ehhh "I can wait til its on DVD".
Thank goodness. CGI just hasn't come far enough to make a convincing Hulk.
I'm kind of surprised it's such an issue given the way the Batman movies have rocked a different lead in nearly all of its parts. It's kind of just how it rolls, isn't it?
Mark Ruffalo doesn't really seem the Hulk type, but I'm sure it'll be great!
Mark Ruffalo was great in Shutter Island. BTW it's "than Norton or Eric Bana did" not "then Norton or Eric Bana did" as you have it.
I like that they will use motion capture for Mark Ruffalo's Hulk. I, too, agree that it would have been nice to have the same actor do the various Hulk films.
