Mark Levin to liberal media: Blame me for the shooting and get sued

Irresponsible media types began blaming conservatives for the Tucson shooting almost moments after it happened.  But one conservative talker is not going to sit still and take the abuse.

Newsbusters' Noel Sheppard reports Friday that conservative talk show host and attorney Mark Levin issued a stern warning to liberal media personalities.  Anyone who tries to tie him to the shooting will get sued.

Levin said it was time for conservatives to stand up for themselves and draw the line against those in the media who deliberately smear conservatives for any act of violence:

Now I’m going to tell you something. Maybe I shouldn’t, but I will. I’m waiting for an allegation that is very specific against me because I’m going to sue. I don’t care if they’re bloggers, I don’t care if they’re television hosts, I don’t care if they’re radio hosts. I’m going to drag your ass into federal court. Oh, you’ll have due process. It’ll all be nice and legal. I’m going to personally depose you. I’m going to drag you in front of a jury, and I’m going to get your assets.

The American Spectator reported that Levin also challenged MSNBC's Chris Matthews to find any example of himself or Palin promoting murder.

According to the Spectator, Matthews implied that rhetoric from passionate hosts like Levin and Michael Savage had a role in the Tucson massacre.

"I challenge Chris Matthews, I'll put $100,000 on the table, to find any example where Sarah Palin has promoted the murder of anybody," Levin said.  Levin continued:
"A hundred thousand on the table if Chris Matthews can find anywhere Mark Levin has urged the murder of people who have different political viewpoints. That's the murder of politicians …where I said go out there and kill X,Y,Z…go out there and kill A,B,C. I challenge him right now. Sarah Palin. Me. Go ahead."
False accusations against conservatives by liberals in the media are nothing new.  In her most recent column, Michelle Malkin writes the "blame righty" theme has become a staple in todays' so-called mainstream news.  She writes:

For the past two years, Democrat officials, liberal activists, and journalists have jumped to libelous conclusions about individual shooting sprees committed by mentally unstable loners with incoherent delusions all over the ideological map. The White House now pledges to swear off “pointing fingers or assigning blame.” Alas, the Obama administration’s political and media foot soldiers have proven themselves incapable of such restraint.

Malkin then summarizes major events in the last two years where media personalities tried to smear conservatives as accomplices in crime, even though the perpetrators were found to be liberal agitators, terrorists, or in the case of Census worker Bill Sparkman, a man who killed himself after setting up a hate crime hoax.

Several polls show that Americans are not buying the propaganda of the mainstream press.

Perhaps it is time for conservatives to consider legal options.

Even though the President has called for a new tone, angry liberals in the media continue to push what Sarah Palin called a "blood libel."

The media will not police itself, nor do some in the press seemed interested in facts that do not match their template.

Perhaps the Tea Party should consider a class action suit against media outlets and individuals who irresponsibly pushed the "tea party is to blame" rhetoric.

Levin may be on to something.  As he stated on his program, laws against libel are older than the First Amendment.
