Last Friday, well-known mega-church pastor, Mark Driscoll, showed up, uninvited, at Pastor John MacArthur's conference, Strange Fire, reports the Christian Post. The conference analyzed the charismatic movement, while promoting a more traditional position. Mr. Driscoll is a well-known charismatic. He was passing out his newest book, which included a chapter about the Holy Spirit.
He tweeted about one hour before hand: "Hey #StrangeFire friends - see u in 1hr. I'll have free copies of my new book. The chapters on tribalism & Holy Spirit may be helpful,"
The meeting, over the weekend in California, was hosted by Pastor MacArthur's church, Grace Community Church. He and other pastors lectured on the charismatic movement, warning people about its weaknesses and dangers.
He later tweeted that the books were confiscated. As reported by Religion News, according to an eye-witness, an assistant to MacArthur, stated the books were not confiscated but given as a gift:
"He brought books to hand out. We explained to him that all the books distributed on campus need to be approved. He told us that he wanted them to be a gift to us from him. One of our conference directors took that gift and brought them up to the offices."
Mr. Driscoll, along with the well-known John Piper, is a proponent of the continuation of extraordinary gifts of the Spirit.
