Mark and Estel edge out winter at #MBFW

Rock and design duo Mark and Estel concluded the first official night of MBFW with a rousing collection, ideal for the fashion forward woman or man with a bit of an edge. (In other words, most of NYC's female and much of its make population!) The remarkable appeal of Mark and Estel's clothing was apparent from the verbal reactions from both celebrities ("Dancing with the Stars" hunk, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, singer/songwriter Skylar Grey, Rutina Wesley of "True Blood", Vanessa Ray of "Pretty Little Liars" and "Blue Bloods", and Taryn Manning) and those less "famous", alike.

Last season (see video here), they wowed the crowd with clean lines and surprise twists, in their MBFW debut. And staying true to their funky, yet restrained rock and roll inspired style, Mark and Estel’s F/W collection was composed of notes of black, leather, velvet and wool - with a few trills of lace and silk thrown in. Standouts included a brown and grey striped hooded sweater dress, black leather body armor (Mark and Estel by Douglas Dunnam), and a red and black striped military coat.

The models in the show were styled with slicked back hair by Niki Walker-Kennedy for Paul Mitchell. And bold lip color artfully applied by Smashbox Cosmetics craftspeople, led by Holly Gowers, along with attention grabbing Zoya nails by Sunshine Outing, struck all the right chords for creating the ultimate rocker-chic look.

But while the models may have been sporting rocker chic, the real rocking came at the end of the show, when Mark and Estel eschewed the usual curtain call for an electric guitar (played by Mark) accompanied performance of one of their songs. It was the perfect, driven, irreverent button for a cheekily urbane, yet eminently wearable fashion fugue.
