Mario McNeill enters Raleigh's Central Prison one day after another inmate is found dead. McNeill, 29, would be placed in a safekeeping cell for his own protection. Raleigh's Central Prison is located at 1300 Western Blvd. Raleigh, North Carolina, a part of Wake County. Central Prison holds the capacity of 1,000 male inmates with a staff size of approximately 700. Visitors with a one week notice must have a valid photo ID, be listed on a log, issued a numbered laminated pass before entering the elevator that takes them to the visiting location. Raleigh's Central Prison does respect the privacy of prisoners. When contacting them they only released information that Mario McNeill is at that location. However, when asking if it is always a precaution to place a murder suspect entry under "suicide watch" they had no comment. It is known that Mario McNeill has been placed in a safekeeping cell with no other prisoners at this time.

Death by Natural Causes in Raleigh's Central Prison
On November 19, 2009 Kayin Whitfield, 28, was found unresponsive in bed. He died that night. Preliminary findings indicated that Whitfield died of natural causes. However, Whitfield had no previous health issues to indicate any forewarning. Whitfield was serving a five-month sentence for driving with a revoked license and assaulting a police officer, including damaging property. Whitfield entered Central Prison on October 6, 2009, just a little over a month before he was found unresponsive.
Mario McNeill entered Raleigh's Central Prison on November 20, 2009, just one day after Whitfield died resulting in questions surrounding if Mario McNeill would soon die of "natural causes." Whitfield was not the only inmate to die of "natural causes", there were others, including that of Craig Logan.
On July 5, 2001, within the same week of entry, Craig Logan, 28, was found in "distress" by other inmates while located in the dormitory bathroom. He was pronounced dead 35 minutes later. Logan entered Central Prison to begin a life sentence after being convicted of murder.

"Another Central Prison inmate is found dead of natural causes" hit the media stream the weekend that Mario McNeill headed to Raleigh's Central Prison. The news stirred the memory of other inmate deaths of natural causes. However, based on public records released a death inside of Central Prison from natural causes at an early age rarely happens, although it is still possible.

I hate what happened to this child, it haunts me because I have a daughter and could not imagine my state of mind if this were to happen to her. I believe they should be given a severe punishment as examples in our legal system of what happens when you hurt children. I also believe we have to keep in mind that people who commit these types of crimes are often repeating criminal behaviors learned by influence & environment. Lets not forget that of age criminals used to be children. To me this is a systemic social problem that needs to addressed by our communities, places of worship, the media & government more seriously or we will always have continual reports on another child's death. I would rather see the news report and support ways to protect our children than make juicy news of what someone has done to a child and not care to discuss prevention of crimes like this. Rest in peace Shaniya. I believe you are in a better place now.
Wow! I'm stunned with his rap sheet! With all those felonies it is amazing he was out of prison. This case has really done it for me....if I wasn't married, I would stay single the rest of my life....btw I would've driven down the NC to pick Shaniya up myself and gave her a wonderful family! I'll never get over this.
Let him escape, I will serve him great justice. He make me sick, he deserve no air in his cell.I hate it when the judicial system protect these sick animals. Poor Shaniya received no protection. Throw him into population, let the inmates hand down his sentence. I saw him on Nancy Grace and he came into the courtroom smiling like a demon that he is. I hope shaniya will haunt him until the day he dies, and I hope judgment will come REAL soon for this creep. This man sickens my stomach.
I won't ever forget this story or this poor poor little girl either. You guys why do some women have kids? I was so angry and upset with the mother that I would probably do just about anything to her ifIi ever met her, she sickens me too. The thought of this poor girl being raped over and over make me very nauseated. My heart aches for Shaniya, I want to fight for Shaniya, I'm very angry, and I never even knew the little girl.
These animals hurt our kids, and they go straight to jail and have 3 free meals, cable tv, weight room, ON US, and our kids are 6 feet in the ground. I don't see him living long either. Whatever comes his way, I wish I could be there to witness it.
Justice will be served to both. I am just so sorry things had to go this way for such a beautiful angel. The only thing that keeps me from crying is that I know she is in heaven with Jesus and other angels. I want them to live with the memories of what they destroyed, quick death penalty is an easy way out!

I can only imagine the horror and terror that little girl went through before she died. How can anyone do that to a child who is so helpless? Mario is a coward and a punk I hope those inmates sodomize and rape his ass like he did that 5 year old baby.
I hope they don't give him an easy wa out he needs to to sit and think about what he has done. This is so sad that he had to do this to a baby abd the fact that the mother was prostituting her her punishment needs to be just as severe I don't care if it was the drugs. i cry my eyes out just reading this because my best friends older sister is the girl that has kids by him and they keep defending him and i think its wrong because he killed a five year old who didn't really have a chance too see what life is really about she'll never have a prom or graduate or have her first kiss and i just want him dead because i have a niece and i know how i would feel if some dirty man did that to her
