"The X Factor" U.S. host Mario Lopez has signed on to host Fox's "New Year's Eve Live," which the network will televised Dec. 31, 2013, from 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. EST (tape delayed in all other U.S. time zones). Fox made the announcement on Dec. 19, 2013.

The special will feature performances by J. Cole, Krewella, New Politics and Panic! At The Disco from Light Nightclub at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Fox cameras also will capture the world-famous New Year’s Eve Ball live, as it makes its descent into New York’s Times Square to welcome in 2014.

"New Year's Eve Live" is executive-produced by Bob Bain, with Greg Sills serving as supervising producer and Paul Flattery serving as producer.

Lopez is an experienced TV host. In addition to hosting Fox's "The X Factor," he also co-hosts the nationally syndicated celebrity news show "Extra." He has also served as host of the NCLR ALMA Awards and Miss America Pageant and the now-cancelled TV series "America's Best Dance Crew."

Lopez has been hosting "The X Factor" since October 2012. It has not yet been announced if Fox is renewing "The X Factor" U.S. for a fourth season, but "X Factor" creator/executive producer Simon Cowell said in a December 2013 conference call with journalists he is confident that the show will be back in 2014 and that he wants big changes for the show, including an all-new judging panel.

"The X Factor" U.S. hit an all-time low in its ratings in 2013. According to the Nielsen Company, the show averaged 6 million U.S. viewers per episode in 2013. That's a big drop from the show's ratings of 9 million U.S. viewers per episode in 2012 and 12 million U.S. viewers per episode in 2011.
