On Wednesday, October 9, 2013, Mario Lopez hosted the 30th Anniversary celebration of the Walter Kaitz Foundation at the Marriott Marquee in Times Square, New York. Here is what Lopez had to say about hosting the event and diversity in the cable industry.
Elizabeth Tam (ET): What made you want to get involved with the Walter Kaitz Foundation?
Mario Lopez (ML): I like what the foundation is all about. Celebrating diversity is really important to me and that I'm able to host the 30th annual event means a lot and I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of nice folks involved with the event tonight.
ET: Tonight is the 30th Anniversary of the Walter Kaitz Foundation, are you excited? What are you looking forward to most tonight?
ML: Again, meeting folks and just spreading the word about diversity, specifically [about] Latinos in our television industry today and to tell them about how excited I am to be working with Nuvo TV, the projects we've got going on over there and what they're all about. That's probably what I'm most looking forward to talking about.
ET: Is there anything in particular that you want to tell Latinos that you are doing?
ML: I want to raise the awareness level, to put out NuvoTV and make them all aware and get them all started watching and try to get the channel in as many homes as possible.
ET: Why do you think diversity is so important in the cable industry?
ML: You have to have an accurate portrayal of America, you have to tell an accurate story. You're ethnic yourself, so you want to see people that look like you on TV, so it's important and I think it's needed. We've come a long way and I still think we've got a long way to go.
ET: Any last words?
ML: Check out Nuvo and check out the shows on it.
