'Mario Golf: World Tour' announced for the Nintendo 3DS, tees off this summer

The "Mario Golf" series has been around for a long, long time. While it's not been around as long as the "Mario Kart" games, the games have seen releases on a wide number of Nintendo systems.

The Nintendo 3DS is finally getting it's own. "Mario Golf: World Tour" was announced this morning during the Nintendo Direct presentation, and it looks outstanding. Seeing that the game is in 3D, and portable, might make this the best "Mario Golf" game yet.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said the game will launch sometime in the summer, but didn't give out an exact date. The developer, Camelot, has been making working on the franchise since the first game came out way back in 1999.

"Mario Golf: World Tour" will feature both standard golf courses and of course, ones designed with the Mario series in mind. The roster will be stacked with Mario characters and if past games are any indication, there will be plenty of secret characters to unlock.

"Mario Golf: World Tour" will launch for the Nintendo 3DS this summer.
