A shooting on the Quantico Marine Base has lead to the death of three marines. Gunfire began around 11:00 p.m. EST on Thursday when the gunman killed a male Marine, according to ABC News on March 22.
The suspected gunman barricaded himself inside a barracks building near the Officer Candidate School. The base was immediately put on lockdown per the message on their Facebook page.
“BREAKING NEWS: An isolated shooting incident has occurred at Officer Candidate School, Quantico, Va. The suspect is still believed to be at large. PMO and Prince William County police have been dispatched. This is the most accurate and current information we have at this time.
Base residents are to follow all instructions being delivered by the Giant Voice System. Please remain inside your homes with your doors locked.
Marine Corps Base Quantico is FPCON DELTA at this time.”
Authorities entered the barracks early on Friday morning where the suspect had barricaded himself. According to Lt. Agustin Solivan, the suspect was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound along with a second victim.
The lockdown for Quantico Marine Base has now been lifted per their Facebook page.
“Marine Corps Base Quantico is Code Green at this time. All normal activities are cleared to resume. Further information will be released as it becomes available.”
There have been no names released of the suspected shooter or the two victims. Lt. Agustin Solivan does say they believe the suspect was a staff member at the officer candidate school on the base. The two victims were Marines as well. There were will be more updates to follow as the information becomes available.
