The American flag is a symbol of patriotism and sacrifice and pride and when two American servicemen saw that it was being disrespected on Sunday they went into action. According to Biz Pac Review an American marine and soldier saw that a protester was disrespecting the American flag during a protest the flag heroes gave spirited pursue of the protester. The disrespecting man was riding around on his scooter while flying the flag upside down.
A video caught the confrontation over protecting the American flag and the two on the scooter appeared to be flying the flag upside down as a symbol of distress which is recognized by the U.S. Flag Code. The two patriotic men did not see it as distress but apparently viewed it as a sign of disrespect.
In fact the exact wording for the U.S. Flag Code reads: “The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.”
The protesters in Albuquerque appeared to stretch the meaning to cover their protest over a number of recent fatal police shooting. This did not buy the protesters on the scooter any agreement for their conduct from the two American servicemen who served the nation. “I don’t give a [expletive] what the symbol is,” one of the men says to a demonstrator. “We serve our [expletive] country and that’s bull[expletive],” he shouted, according to Biz Pac Review.
Was it overreaction or an act of patriotism? The two servicemen clearly thought they did the right thing for the flag.
