I cannot count the number of people already in therapy who have complained that they were thinking about discontinuing it because they experienced their therapist as insensitive during one or more sessions.
I usually advise them not to give up on their therapist before discussing their concern with her or him. A good therapist will welcome your feedback about how the therapy is going, listen with understanding, accept criticism, and not respond defensively
The process of expressing your concerns is likely to be growth producing when it occurs in a supportive, nurturing context.
