While Marilyn was making the 1962 film, Something's Got to Give, Lawrence Schiller took luscious photos of this screen icon. Who knew it would be her last professional photo session? Two months after celebrating her birthday on the set, Marilyn was dead, and the film was never finished. Check out the indelible moments Schiller captured in the Marilyn Monroe 12 Photographs exhibit at the Duncan Miller Gallery from October 21 - November 26, 2011. The opening reception on Friday, October 21st from 7-9PM is free and open to the public.
Marilyn once said, "If you're going to be two-faced, at least make one of them pretty." To that end, she was notorious for cutting up negatives of photos she didn't like. Here's your opportunity to see some legendary large scale (48" x 60") images that survived. In the accompanying photo by Lawrence Schiller, Marilyn jumped in a swimming pool wearing a flesh-colored bikini, but she emerged an au natural goddess.
Lawrence Schiller started as a photojournalist for Life, The Sunday Times, Time, Newsweek, and The Saturday Evening Post. Later, Schiller became a New York Times best-selling author, and he directed fifteen films. He also produced the TV movie, Marilyn, The Untold Story.
Additional photographs of Marilyn by selected photographers, including Philippe Halsman, Milton Greene, Bob Willoughby, Murray Garrett, and Benn Mitchell will also be on display.
