Marilyn Monroe fashion line launches at Macy’s (Video)

Portland fashionistas are preparing for spring but are they ready for this?

Macy’s announced Tuesday, March 5, 2013 the launch of a new collection honoring the 50s fashion and style of the late great actress Marilyn Monroe.

What defines Marilyn Monroe fashion sensibility?

Fashion writer Heather Warlick for Newsok.com wrote, “Marilyn Monroe brought body-conscious designs to the forefront of fashion, a feat in an era of Peter Pan collars, matching gloves, handbags and propriety.

Perhaps one of Monroe's greatest contributions to fashion and beauty was how she embraced her curvy, seductive figure.”

And now Macy’s Marilyn Monroe apparel collection embraces and re-imagines the style of the greatest icon of the 20th century for the 21st century fashionista.

Facebook fan Heather Turnbow said, “I love it but I love all 50's glamour." Oh how I wish I had been alive during that era.”

The Marilyn Monroe silhouettes fit and flatter, from halter dresses that cinch at the waist to gingham tie-front, button-down tops and pink polka dot denim, evoking a Monroe-esque image.

Recreating the icon’s noteworthy personality this spring, Marilyn Monroe is effortless, flirty and ultra-feminine.

Other Facebook fans had mixed reviews when asked about the Marilyn Monroe collection.

Fox McCoy said, “Let the dead rest in peace. These stars died tragically. We make them legends and a generation later someone cashes in big.”

Tabitha Knight said, “I like the fashion, but I wish they'd got a model more with Marilyn's body type. Personally, I think it's defeating what makes her so iconic.”

Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think.

“Marilyn Monroe’s appeal is legendary,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s chief marketing officer. “This new line takes her unique sensibility, noteworthy silhouettes and colors of the time, and reinvents them for a modern-day Marilyn Monroe that is fun-loving, flirty and not afraid to play with fashion.”
