A tanker truck filled with almost 4 tons of pot was quite the find for a Texas law enforcement officer during a routine traffic stop. The marijuana had an estimated street value of $3.4 million, according to Yahoo News on April 4, 2013.
It's unclear what tipped off the cop that the tanker wasn't carrying the gas it was supposed to be carrying, but his instincts proved right on the money. The truck driver was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. He is being held on $1 million bond.
A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson, Johnny Hernandez, said that this was “a big significant seizure” of drugs. It is one of the biggest in recent history for Texas.
Federal law enforcement seized another big batch of marijuana along the Arizona-Mexico border earlier this year. The estimated street value was anywhere between $7 million and $12 million, which makes this tanker truck stuffed with pot look like a small bust, but it's not.
