Smoking weed on the job gets most people fired, but a Denver, Colorado man is paid to do it. He's a marijuana critic who writes under the pseudonym William Breathes. Breathes is one of the country's first medical marijuana critics. He remains anonymous the same way restaurant critics do. Breathes writes about dispensaries, pot quality, and gourmet weed-foods.

Breathes' Managing Editor, Jonathan Shikes of Denver Westword, says plenty of applicants wanted to get high and write about it, but Breathes is a "good writer," and "he can punctuate and spell." Breathes wrote an article about his interview with Jason Jones of The Daily Show. He says Jones asked him about his job, "Let me get this straight: They pay you real money? They don't just pay you in Oreos and Phish tickets?"

Breathes describes his job: "Here's what it's like. I try to go to dispensaries in the afternoon before the after-work rush so I can hang out a bit. Lately I've been going to shops that were suggested to me by other patients -- either in passing at other dispensaries, through comments on the blog...."

"Medical marijuana is something I take seriously, but that doesn't mean I can't have fun with it. I don't think I'll ever get past the kid-in-a-candy-store feeling when I see twenty different strains in front of me. And I know I'll never get used to collecting a paycheck for taking bong hits."

There are an estimated 200 marijuana dispensaries in Denver. By comparison, an online search of Long Beach, California reveals 17. Other states have zero. Arizona, Nevada, and many other states have yet to legalize medical marijuana sales. Oregon's ballot initiative, Measure 28, would allow it there, but right now, Colorado is seeing far more legal weed traffic than most of the US. People are moving there to take advantage of the state's weed-tolerant policies.
