Marie Osmond's 18-year-old son Michael Blosil died late Friday night after committing suicide by jumping from his apartment building in downtown Los Angeles.

The news of Blosil's death was released Saturday.  Blosil had apparently suffered from depression for some time, according to reports by Entertainment Tonight online. Michael Blosil was one of Marie Osmond's five adopted children.

Marie Osmond told the entertainment news program Saturday: "My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time".

Marie Osmond's brother, entertainment icon and Dancing with the Stars winner Donnie Osmond, asked Entertainment Tonight reporters: "Please pray for my sister and her family."

Donnie and Marie Osmond are currently headlining a regular show at The Flamingo in Las Vegas. Saturday night's performance has been cancelled.

Marie Osmond authored a book about her own experiences with postpartum depression in 2002 called 'Behind the Smile'.
