Maricopa County Sheriff's Office

Luis Moreno, 38, of Phoenix was arrested and faces animal cruelty charges for allegedly starving his pit bull and turning the dog into the Maricopa Animal Care and Control claiming the dog was a stray reported azcentral.com.

Two years ago, Moreno and his girlfriend broke up, and Moreno retained custody of the couple's dog they had jointly adopted in 2008. In a bizarre attempt to win his girlfriend back using the dog named Wiggles as a pawn, Moreno began to notify his ex-girlfriend with frightening updates regarding the dog's health and safety.

The first notification came when Moreno told his girlfriend that Wiggles had died. Shortly after, he said the dog was fine.

More text messages followed with Moreno claiming the dog was sick and that he had no money for veterinary help.

The woman offered to help Wiggles, but Moreno ignored her.

According to the inquisitr.com, a series of text messages then began as Moreno slowly starved Wiggles to death with one message reading, "Wiggles is dead, I hope your happy (expletive).”

Accompanying the disturbing text message, was a picture of Wiggles hardly able to lift his head with ribs protruding lying on the ground.

Maricopa Animal Care and Control deemed Wiggles suffering too much to save, and the dog was humanely euthanized.

Rest in peace Wiggles.

Moreno also faces domestic violence charges.
