Marian makes his mark in Rangers 3-2 OT victory over Bruins

New York Rangers (30-12-4) winger Marian Gaborik scored two goals in leading the Blueshirts to a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins (30-14-1) in NHL action on Saturday afternoon. With the victory New York remains in the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Blueshirts captain Ryan Callahan (16) opened up the scoring for New York with a wrister at the 1:31 mark of the second period of play. Andrew Ference (4) found an answer for the Bruins at 3:28.  Gaborik scored his first of two, on a wicked slap shot at 14:30 for the brief 2-1 lead.

Adam McQuaid (2) lifted Boston to overtime with a snap shot at the 19:11 mark. It was in the overtime frame that the Rangers, who hadn’t scored a power-play goal in seven games-cashed in on the extra man advantage.

New York had earned the power play when Andrew Ference pushed Ryan McDonagh into the boards with 3:10 remaining.  McDonagh remained on the ice for a few moments, before skating to the locker room with assistance from the training staff.

It was at the 4:56 mark that Gaborik (25) lifted a backhander for the game-winner for New York. In the cage for the Rangers Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves, as New York extends their lead in the Eastern Conference with 64 points.

The Blueshirts will have two days off before hosting the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. The game with the Rangers and Jets is scheduled to air on the MSG Plus 2 network, with face-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
