Mariah’s new single “I Want to Know What Love Is” originally by British band Foreigner was leaked, and boy oh boy, is it good!
At first it sounded like the start of a Christmas song, and I was like fudge! Then I thought Mariah had gone ape-doodie and covered Mandy Moore’s “Only Hope”. Thankfully…that wasn’t the case.

Many people were skeptical about such a wonderful (and successful) song being covered, but like I say, if it’s been twenty years or more, it’s totally fair game.
Mariah has been under major scrutiny over her last single “Obsessed” not making the top 10, and for years now, about her signing and how much she’s changed as a musician from her “Vision of Love” era up until Hip-Hop Mariah and perhaps her last ballad “I Stay in Love” not being as good as her previous work.
Truth is, this song appears to be dull in its existence, knowing it’s supposed to be the single to fully support her next album Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel. But IT IS NOT. This is reminiscent of her early vocal work, and it’s a great remake of the track. This ballad, with the right promotion and a great music video, could actually bring power-ballads back (God knows “Bleeding Love” did its part last year).
The song is righteously paced, and it showcases Carey’s voice magnificently.

Great! Can't wait to hear it. I wasn't too impressed with the radio edit. But I can't find the full version anywhere!
There's just something about Mariah's voice that makes the others seem like amateurs (Whitney, Britney, Celine, Madonna and other wannabies)

Nice change of pace Mariah. The audio for the YouTube is not the greatest, the pitch seems to have been tampered with, but I have actually heard the song and it is lovely. But I think it will be a bit tough selling such a slow ballad today, Leona's was much more popish and quicker.
the versions on youtube are not the same, which is good because people can get the song that way, the original version is not as high pitched and its longer at the end.
All Mariah fans buy this song.
By the way, obsessed has sold over 500,000 in the US alone, that alone means its a hit.

It's sad when people consider you a failure for having a single @ #11. If that's the case then Mariah's in the same rank as 100% of ALL artist. Let's keep it real majority of singers don't even have their songs go into top 40 let alone top 10 then to match have 18 #1 singles top the charts.
What's even more sad are those on here that want to talk negative about Mariah & don't have the cojones 2 even put a real name behind it.
I've always been a Mariah Carey fan but I think I Want To Know What Love Is is her worst remake ever! No bashing whatsoever but I think that her versions of I'll Be There, Without You, Endless Love, Open Arms, The Beautiful Ones, Against All Odds are better than this current one. What happened to her songwriting ability. She should be releasing an original song somewhat like We Belong Together as a followup single. And it's not bad at all to release this remake but not as the main single from the album. Mariah was not used to release a cover as a main single. Anyway, I'm glad that Obsessed on the charts. It climbed to the Top 5 on Amazon this week.
This is beautiful, alot of different textures, and it builds to a dramatic ending. Her voice is amazing.
