Mariah Carey’s second single, following the success of “Obsessed” this summer, “I Want To Know What Love Is” had promotion alongside the album Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel, but without the video, the track fell through the cracks. Now, the video is out ready for the holiday market and hoping to gain airplay. The ballad is fantastic, and it gives Mariah a fresh (yet familiar) 90s feel to her vocals, that many have come to criticize through the years. “IWTKWLI” peaked at #60 on the Hot 100, #40 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, #9 US Hot Dance/Club Play, and internationally #3 in Japan, #1 in Brazil and Top 40 in five other countries.
The video itself is a glistening treat for the human eye, with lovely cinematography and special effects that are sharp, simple and vivid. Despite the great textures of it, the video is unimaginative and trivial compared to the lyrics of the track. Nonetheless, it should be a nice little video to carry the tune.
