Mariah Carey: Hormone treatments made me gain weight

Mariah Carey, who confirmed she's pregnant with her first child with husband Nick Cannon, says fertility treatments helped her finally conceive after she suffered a miscarriage in 2008.

"I put my body through like a whole kind of cleansing kind of situation and prepared," Carey, 41, tells Access Hollywood. "I had to be on progesterone. I did end up being on progesterone like every month to go through the cycles.

"It also bloats you, it also puts on weight. So then, everybody was like, 'Oh, the weight gain, she’s definitely pregnant!'"

CELINE DION SUGGESTED ACUPUNCTURE

Mariah also credits acupuncture for helping her conceive -- a treatment she tried on the advice of singer Celine Dion, who recently gave birth to twins.

"Celine was talking about acupuncture," Carey recalls. "I used to get acupuncture, and I had never thought (of it) with regards to trying to conceive.

"I was (getting acupuncture), like, once a day at least. It was on a schedule, everything. For the first time in my life, I spent time in one place."

'NAUSEOUS AND EXHAUSTED'

Now pregnant, Mariah is feeling the effects of carrying a baby.

"Right now I feel nauseous, I'm exhausted," she says. Carey, who's currently promoting her new Merry Christmas II You album, says she'll relax after New Year's.

Mariah, who admits she and husband Nick, 30, always enjoy over-the-top Christmas celebrations, says this year's will be more special than ever.

"[We have a lot to celebrate]. Yes, we do," saus Carey. "We definitely, most certainly do."
