Following her disappointing Australian Open performance, Maria Sharapova realized she was going to have to do a lot more work to regain her form and move back to the top of the women's tennis rankings.
Sharapova moved closer to that goal on Saturday after winning her first tournament of the year in Memphis.
She easily defeated Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson 6-2, 6-1 to take the Cellular South Cup Title.
Afterward, Sharapova told the BBC, ""I feel great. I came here for matches - I got five and I got the win, so it was a good week. I served and returned well - two things that are very important indoors.
"I also did the right things against Sofia. I worked hard after the Australian Open and little by little things are coming along, " Sharapova added.
While the tournament was not a major one, a win will give Maria Sharapova more confidence as she progresses toward the summer Grand Slam tournaments.
