CBS gets things underway on a warm and sunny day at the tennis center in Flushing, New York. It is great day of tennis for fans both of men’s and women’s sides of the draw.
Maria Sharapova continues her return after a shoulder injury in the match of the day this afternoon against the surprise of the tournament thus far American teenager Melanie Oudin.
Oudin is just the scrappy kind of player who the New York crowd can get behind. But Sharapova is also a crowd favorite and she will get a solid challenge from the young Georgia tennis player.
Also being featured this afternoon will be the play of another crowd favorite No. 5-seeded Andy Roddick against another American upstart John Isner.
The wonderfully talented CBS broadcast team of Dick Enberg  analysts Mary Carillo and John McEnroe are in the booth for the 10th consecutive year. Jim Courier joins CBS Sports’ U.S. Open announce team as an analyst and will call the action alongside Bill Macatee. Mary Joe Fernandez serves as reporter. Ian Eagle serves as contributor.
Tonight the action goes to Tennis Channel where Ted Robinson, Ian Eagle, Jimmy Connors and Martina Navrátilová along with Bill Macatee will be on hand to call the night session that will feature. James Blake and Dinara Safina will be among the players being featured.
For those who can’t get the Tennis Channel you can watch the action on your laptop at their website at Tennis Channel.com or at US Open.org both will provide the coverage. Be sure to check it out.

Who was a moron commentator today during Sharapova-Oudin game?
He said "17-year old teenager" about 46 times (after I started counting) and not a single word about the game?

Can CBS get rid of the guy? He did not sound like McEnroe and certainly did not know anything about tennis.

I couldn't believe Maria lost! I have been following her on Prince's facebook page (www.facebook.com/official.prince.tennis) and I guess I thought she was either better than she was, or I seriously underestimated Oudin (probably the latter).
