Unfortunately for all of the part time tennis fans, Maria Sharapova has announced her intentions to dropout of the 2013 U.S Open. The news came down Wednesday night on August 21, and it’s a shame for more than one reason. Sharapova won the 2006 U.S. Open title and is currently ranked in the top three in the world. While the injury doesn’t appear to be too serious, it’s enough for her to not make an attempt at a major title.
According to Sharapova’s agent, her “shoulder has been giving her problems since the French Open in May.” She has right shoulder bursitis, and that can be very painful, especially when trying to swing a racket.
Earlier in the week, Maria Sharapova had plans to change her name for the two week tournament. In conjunction with her new candy, Maria was ready to go with Sugarpova for her promotion with Sugarpovas. Besides candy, the website has merchandise including a Sugarpova hat.
The U.S. Open will begin on Monday.
