"Extra TV" host Maria Menounos said her weight-loss secrets include regular exercise, never skipping breakfast, and staying hydrated.
Maria said she tries to walk 10,000 steps (or about five miles) every day. The 5-foot-8 brunette beauty maintains her hot bikini body at 125 to 130 pounds with running, spinning, basketball and Pilates workouts. Maria also does Krav Maga, an Israeli martial art.
Menounos shared her diet and workout secrets in her new book, The EveryGirl's Guide to Diet and Fitness. Her weight-loss tips include the following:
1. Always eat breakfast. Maria, 35, said this will help ensure that you don't overeat later in the day because you're starving.
2. Drink hot water. "Hot water is like magic," said Menounos. "It fills you up. It also is detoxifying, de-stressing, and helps digest the food in your stomach. You'll find yourself eating a little less if you're drinking hot water."
3. Throw out the junk. Maria keeps her fridge stocked with lots of leafy green vegetables and Greek yogurt. She doesn't keep unhealthy foods around her home to avoid temptation. "If it's there, I will eat it," she said. "If it's not there, I'm too lazy to go get it."
4. Don't eat late at night. Menounos tries to eat dinner before 8 p.m. because she doesn't want to weigh down her digestive system with a heavy meal when she's trying to sleep.
While she's hailed for her fit physique now, Maria was 40 pounds heavier during her 20s. Menounos slimmed down from a size 14 to a four by working out with a trainer and cutting back on portion sizes and junk-food consumption.
She said losing weight and becoming fit not only changed the way her body looks, but how she feels about herself. "Getting fit has been empowering," Maria said.
