Maria Menounos discussed her 40 pound weight loss in the new issue of "Ladies Home Journal." The "Extra" co-host and soon-to-be reality star ("Chasing Maria" will air on Oxygen beginning March 18) talked about her diet history over the years -- she didn't always have such an amazing physique! On March 14, E! News reported that Menounos had a lifestyle change long before she achieved her present-day bod.
Maria says that growing up, she was used to eating healthy -- like all the time. Her parents (both immigrants from Greece) ate a lot of vegetables, beans, and fruits, not unlike many Mediterranean people. However once Maria hit high school, she started binging on sugary foods, why? Because she didn't have them at home and she basically became addicted to eating junk.
Maria Menounos' 40 pound weight loss came later on in her life -- when she realized that she was unhappy -- and unhealthy -- at a size 14... and then some. "I didn't gain the Freshman 15—I gained the Freshman 40. I could keep candy and chips in my room and eat all the late-night pizza I could afford. I grew to a size 14 and kept growing. I felt sick and lethargic. I wanted to nap all the time," explained Maria.
Once she hit age 20, Maria decided she needed to change the way she was eating and that's what she did. Rather than following a traditional diet, however, Maria says she created her own -- something that would work for her. And it did. In one year, Maria lost 40 pounds.
Since Maria Menounos' 40 pound weight loss, she has managed to keep the weight off and she looks a-mazing. She started by keeping a food journal for a week and then slowly cutting back her food intake. She added in exercise and voila! It totally paid off.
