Maria Menounos' 40 pound weight loss is being revealed after overcoming quite a struggle with it. As amazing as the Extra host looks now, she once had more weight on her she hated carrying around.
EOnline recapped of a feature of Menounos in Ladies Home Journal that detailed her weight loss journey.
The 35-year-old lived in a very health-conscious household growing up, but later binged on sugary foods she missed out on as a child.
"There were no chips, ice cream, or sugary cereals anywhere at home…I didn't even know what bagels or waffles were until late in high school," Menounos said (her parents ate a Mediterranean diet and her father had type 1 diabetes). "For dinner we ate a variety of dishes made with lentils, vegetables, and beans from the garden. Our dessert? Fruit."
Long before Maria Menounos' 40 pound weight loss ever happened, she was introduced to those delicious sugary foods at the age of 13 when she got a job at a doughnut shop. She was a size 3 in high school and grew a size every year. In college, things only got worse.
"I didn't gain the Freshman 15—I gained the Freshman 40," she revealed. "I could keep candy and chips in my room and eat all the late-night pizza I could afford. I grew to a size 14 and kept growing. I felt sick and lethargic. I wanted to nap all the time."
In her early 20s is when Menounos changed everything because she sick of feeling "tired."
"Since I couldn't find a plan that worked for me, I decided to create my own," she says. "Within a year I lost 40 pounds."
The Extra host went to California where she had a great career in TV starting out, but she wasn't healthy.
"There were consequences to eating so much junk," she said. "I was in and out of the hospital multiple times for exhaustion, malnutrition and dehydration. I realized my whole quest to have an amazing body needed to be seriously reevaluated. Just because you're thinner doesn't mean you're healthier. I made it my mission to figure out the very best ways to control my weight and be healthy at the same time."
Maria Menounos lost 40 pounds by going about her eating plan sensibly. Making healthier choices and allowing the weight to come off slowly.
She suggests people keep their weight loss journey to themselves and not have a specific goal in mind. Document what is eaten and slowly cut back on the bad foods. She admitted she once at 7 slices of pizza in one sitting. What else is a good idea? Exercise and "aim for 10,000 steps per day" and stay away from the scale. Don't obsess on numbers.
Menounos adds that it's best to eat your calories, not drink them. When it comes to dessert, go ahead and enjoy it. Just don't choose the "decadent" one.
