Maria Kang, who is known as Fit Mom and for her recent “No Excuses” campaign against obesity, once said, "Motherhood can make you better". To prove her point, 25 real moms posed in their swimming suits to prove beauty and fitness comes in many different sizes and shapes. On Dec. 29, 2013, Maria Kang released that the long awaited No Excuses Moms calendar. The calendar is available for purchase, and the proceeds will benefit Fitness without Borders and building local No Excuse Mom chapters, and to help moms just like you, get fit, healthy and tackle childhood obesity.
First, the No Excuse 2013 Facebook page was born, which was co-founded by Maria Kang and her good friend Lori Ann Hare. Within a few short months, the group had several thousand members. In September 2013, one of the group members, Shannon Link, had the brilliant idea to feature real moms in a calendar with fitness tips or workout routines, or as Shannon said, “To give Sport Illustrated a run for their money”.
“We are moms, just like you”
Maria insists they are moms just like you, with busy schedules, cranky children and careers that take up much of their time. None of these moms claims to eat a perfect diet, and do occasional spurge on some wine or cheesecake. It is about real life, and being able to balance being a mom, wife, career women and being a healthy fit woman. It is possible to be all four.
No Excuse Mom groups will be there to support you every step of the way. To date, there are 200 local chapters all over the World, plus a private Facebook group that will give you virtual support when you need it. The mission of the local chapters is to provide a place for the mom to exercise, learn healthy habits, and in turn her husband and children will follow in her footsteps and changes the whole family in the process- for the better.
The No Excuse Moms calendar features 25 beautiful moms, showing their amazing transformation. The calendar cost less than $12. In the calendar, not only will you see 25 women and their transformations, but there are easy to follow, yet effective exercises for you to try, so you too can make 2014 be your year to write your own transformation story. The best part is, the proceeds benefit Fitness Without Borders and No Excuse Moms.
So, what is a no excuse mom?
Good question. The no excuse mom is someone who makes no excuses to not live a healthy life. If she has no spare time in the day because of career or child, she will exercise before work or even late at night. A no excuse mom, will never make an excuse to why she is overweight, she will be proactive and making steps to not be overweight any more. Some of these moms have special needs children, work full time jobs, work at home, or have four, five, or even eight children. The one thing they do have in common is they are making no excuses to not lead a healthy life- not only for themselves, but for their whole family.
