Maria Bello came out about her girlfriend in the New York Times. On Nov. 29, the actress and writer revisited the experience she had with her 12-year-old son when she told him about her sexual orientation.
The outspoken, 46-year-old thespian, who is constantly advocating for equality and other relevant issues, talked about how hard it was to find the right words to explain this adult situation to her boy Jackson.
That said, by talking about what began as an awkward experience, Bello was able to help others in her same situation.
In the article, entitled "Coming Out as a Modern Family," Maria Bello's girlfriend was finally named as the person with whom she is romantically involved. In effect, this was the "Prime Suspect" star's way of coming out to her boy as well as her fans.
Meanwhile, her son's reaction was priceless and pure as the proverbial driven snow.
Taking in this information, Jackson shot back, "Mom, love is love, whatever you are."
"The Prisoners" star talked about her family unit as that unit stands today. The clan of four includes Maria Bello, son Jackson, girlfriend Claire, and Dan McDermott, her son's father and a television executive.
And, as Maria Bello noted in the final line of her compelling New York Times column about her girlfriend and the rest of her clan, "Maybe, in the end, a modern family is just a more honest family."
