Enjoy more wine-tasting, gallery-hopping and dining on the last day of this three-day itinerary.
Day 3: North of Margaret River
The largest concentration of wineries including some of Australia's big names can be found north of Margaret River town. Take the time to explore the local galleries for pottery, jewelry, woodwork and artworks. Don't hurry along the winding tree-lined roads. Delight in the scenery of cliffs and exquisite bays alternating along the coast.
One varietal blend that’s a hallmark of Margaret River whites is the marriage of Sauvignon blanc and Semillon grapes. Crisp and refreshing, Sauvignon blanc Semillon wine benefits from the cooler, maritime climate found here.
Choose between lunch at one of the winery restaurants or a picnic in their lovely gardens. Recommended winery restaurants include Knee Deep in Margaret River or Vasse Felix. Wind your way back to your hotel, with some newly favorite wines to take home or drink on your trip.
Consider enjoying a casual, unpretentious, but satisfying dinner at Settlers Tavern on one of your three nights in Margaret River. The excellent wine list has a wonderful Plan B Shiraz from Frankland River and is a fun way to educate your palate to the wines beyond the immediate area. Special for Bay Area residents: Owner says,
As a Bay Area expat, it’s really great to have visitors from California. If you or any of your Bay Area friends do get back to Margaret River, please give us a holler. We'd love to catch up.
