Mardi Gras: Shake your beads around Portland

Today: Tuesday, February 12, marks FAT TUESDAY!

Portland’s Mardi Gras events will kick off with WMPG’s 18th annual Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Party at USM Portland Campus from 12:00PM to 3:00PM.

For those who are not familiar with WMPG’s annual Cajun cook off, the music, decorations, food and of course feel of New Orleans is brought to you; here in Portland.

The party continues with a street party on Market Street from 6:00PM to 9:00PM with live beads and masks, happy hour specials, more live music and entertainment, as well as prizes and surprises.

If it is too cold for you outdoors, wander into the Big Easy -- but be sure to dress to impress, as they are hosting a Mardi Gras Costume Party with the Fat Tuesdays! Doors open at 7:00PM, with live music starting at 8:00PM, featuring members of: Model Airplane, Royal Hammer, Miss Fairchild and The Fogcutters. Special appearances will include: Lex Jones, Darien Brahms, Adam Waxman, Kenya Hall, Lyle Divinsky and Frank Hopkins as Dr. John.

The Thirsty Pig is also getting in on the festivities, with happy hour specials and a Mardi Gras menu, which includes: andouille sausage with muffalata relish, homemade jambalaya with Maine shrimp and andouille sausage and of course, BEADS, MASKS and MORE!

Portland may have just faced a big storm, but we are ready to party New Orleans' style! Grab your best mask, beads and drinking shoes -- it is going to be a long night.
