Wet your whistle and ready your beads, it's almost time for Mardi Gras in San Diego!

While it's not exactly New Orleans, San Diego does Mardi Gras proud with it's celebrations come Fat Tuesday (March 4th). In the true spirit of the event, you'll find a festive (often raucous) atmosphere, adult beverages galore, parades, and - of course - people doing whatever they can for plastic beads.

Gaslamp Mardi Gras

  • San Diego's most beloved and most attended Mardi Gras celebration hosted nearly 12,000 revelers in 2013. With world class DJ's, stilt walkers, a wide array of dancers (samba, capoiera, and fire dancers for starters), and a 50 foot Chinese dragon puppet, 2014's party looks to be even bigger! Tickets start at $30 all the way up to $85 for VIP passes.

Hillcrest Fat Tuesday

  • The Hillcrest Business Association is bringing the excitement of San Diego Mardi Gras to University Avenue with Hillcrest Fat Tuesday. Join the largest LGBT Fat Tuesday celebration west of New Orleans, starting with a free to the public parade at 6 p.m. The festivities continue with a 21 and over party, with tickets ranging from $22.50 to $52.50.

Wherever you choose to do your celebrating this Fat Tuesday, make sure you get home safe. Plan ahead and don't drink and drive. There are over 1,000 taxi's in the city, public transportation, as well as new services like Uber and Lyft, and this year you may even be able to get a free ride!

Get in on the fun and get home safe with the Sober Lift Home Program. The Law Offices of Howard Kitay is helping San Diego folks get home safe by offering codes for $20 worth of Lyft transportation! To learn more about the Sober Lift Home Program visit
