The Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) in Rancho Santa Fe, California, will be celebrating Mardi Gras this year in style. They will be hosting their first ever Mardi Paws Parade.
The Parade is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 12th from 11:00 a.m. until Noon across from HWAC’s Administration Office Building located at 6461 El Apajo Road. They would love to have the public attend!
This great event will be FREE. HWAC just thought it would be fun to connect their adoptable animals, alumni and those that love to celebrate the occasion; all ages, breeds and creeds on “Bour-bone Street” down in “Cat-on Rouge.”
Those attending are also welcome to dress their well-behaved canines in Mardi Gras themed costumes. It would also be fun to have those dogs participate in the parade around the Center grounds; either on their own “floats” (small wagons or pet strollers). Even though only canines are invited in, the Center has plenty of their own rescues that will be participating in the parade, such as some of their sheep and goats. They may be viewed in traditional Barn-ival style.
Kitty lovers are invited to participate as well. They can email their best “FAT CAT” photos to reginab@animalcenter.org. The photos will be posted on HWAC’s social media sites and voted on by the attending parade participants. The first place winner will receive a night at HWAC’s Club Pet!
The Parade is the kick-off for “Fat Tuesday.” Helen Woodward believes that this new annual tradition is the perfect avenue in which to celebrate all of their orphaned pets and the various programs that they have to offer.
There will also be a variety of other activities for the New Orleans-lover in all of us. The festivities will be bedecked and bejeweled in purple, green and gold. Attendees will be offered non-alcoholic “Purr-icanes. Animals can be entered to compete for “Best Dressed Mardi Gras King and Queen.” Entries are $10 each. Photo opportunities will be available with New Orleans style backgrounds.
All proceeds collected from this Mardi Paws event and the related activities will go to support the Helen Woodward Adoptions Department. In order to get involved with this event, go to www.animalcenter.org/events/mardi-paws or phone 858.756.4117, extension 379. Regina Barrella is their Special Events Supervisor; questions can be directed her way: Reginab@animalcenter.org.
This new event has lots of potential to become very popular indeed. Mardi Gras draws crowds that any animal rescue can utilize to their advantage. This event could give Helen Woodward Animal Center the ability to save the lives of even more animals. Do your best to attend!
