It’s time, once again, for Showboat to show you why they’re known as the Mardi Gras casino in Atlantic City. Next Tuesday, Feb. 12 is “Fat Tuesday” and if New Orleans is a little too far for you to go, look no farther than 801 Boardwalk for all the Mardi Gras you need. There’s music, there’s a King Cake Eating Contest and there’s food for you, too!
So what's so special about king cake that it gets its own contest? Well, the King Cake is the Mardi Gras dessert of choice, a traditional cake baked with a small plastic baby inside. Tradition says that whoever gets the piece with the baby gets to host the next party. Some use an orange wedge or a handful of pecans instead and put the plastic baby on top of the cake. The cake is iced and trimmed in Mardi Gras colors of purple and green.
