Mardi Gras 2013 brings the funk (Photos)

After a lively Super Bowl weekend, the Mardi Gras season is back in full swing. New Orleans' most anticipated event brings in visitors from all over the country, and besides going to the parades, there are loads of awesome events to take advantage of. In particular, some great musical talent will be surfacing up until the season comes to a close on Fat Tuesday.

On the radar tonight:

Tipitina's, famed historic music hall located uptown on Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas, is where it's at this Friday evening, ya heard? After Hermes, Krewe D'Etat and Morpheus roll down St. Charles Avenue, locals and tourists alike will be rushing the doors to catch the Funky Meters with special late night show by the New Mastersounds. Bring your dancing shoes and get ready to get funky with these two epic bands.

The House of Blues will attract fans of the fast-rising trio from south London, the xx.

And the Blue Nile hosts Honey Island Swamp Band. This band really brings the funk and puts on a great show! If you're hanging out in the French Quarter or Marigny later on, you should stop on Frenchmen Street to catch them play.

Have a safe and happy Mardi Gras y'all!

Stay tuned for photos!
