Marcus Thomas wasn't too pleased when he discovered that his Madden NFL 13 photo is an imposter. The man pictured on the package happens to have a few things in common with the New York Giants player. They share the exact same name, both played for the same team, and they are both African-American. Obviously, that does not make them the same person, but that didn't stop Madden from using the wrong photo for the right player.
To add insult to injury, this wasn't the first time the game was produced using the wrong picture. The real Marcus Thomas took to Twitter to voice his displeasure. He wrote, "I been in the nfl going on 6years and y'all still hav another mans face for my pic on madden i hate y'all hate is very strong but I do."
According to NFL.com, "Thomas argues the Madden people dropped the ball somewhere along the way after switching his rookie image for the face of this second Marcus Thomas ... almost half a decade ago."
It was obviously an honest mistake. No one would intentionally use the wrong picture for the game. It is not an issue of the two players looking alike; they do not. However, the person who is responsible for the error might not be a New York Giants fan or know what the NFL player looks like in the first place. The bigger problem is the company's negligence in making the same mistake on Madden NFL 13 year after year, then giving Marcus Thomas a hard time about correcting their mistake.
Ultimately, Madden NFL Live content producer Donny Moore ended up apologizing via Twitter. He wrote, "Sincere apologies Mr. Thomas, we will have this picture removed for next update...It is the UTEP Marcus Thomas."
