Marcus Cobbs has been named head wrestling coach at Truett-McConnell College, the Georgia-based school announced Wednesday.

Cobbs, who most recently has served as the graduate assistant coach at Cumberland University in Tennessee, brings a wealth of experience as a coach and wrestler to the Bears’ mat program.

Since 2012, Cobbs has been on the coaching staff of the Cumberland Bulldogs which can claim seven national qualifiers, three All-Americans, and three Academic All-Americans during his tenure. Prior to Cumberland, Cobbs coached at Concordia University in Seward, Neb.

As a wrestler, Cobbs qualified for the NCAA Division III championships for Loras College. In addition, he was an All-American for Harper Community College in suburban Chicago, and was a national qualifier for William Penn University. He remains actively involved in wrestling, having placed among the top ten at the 2013 U.S. Open.

"I am very impressed with Coach Cobbs’ commitment to God, family and wrestling – in that order," said TMC Director of Athletics, Dr. Stacy Hall. "He understands our vision as a college and as an athletic department, and I am confident that he will lead our wrestling program to great heights."

"I am excited to accept the position of Head Wrestling Coach at Truett-McConnell College," Cobb said. "I am determined to lead our young men to championships on the mat and excellence in the classroom while assisting them in making their walk with Christ stronger. TMC has shown a strong commitment to building a championship wrestling team and I am confident that through recruiting and the amount of talent in Georgia, we will establish a strong tradition of wrestling at Truett-McConnell College."

Truett-McConnell College is a private, Christian, coeducational liberal arts college located northeast of Atlanta in Cleveland, Ga., with an enrollment of approximately 750 students. The wrestling program, which first took to the mat in fall 2011, competes in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).
