Marcos Maidana expects to knockout Floyd Mayweather with a ‘brutal shot’

During a Sunday interview with Fightnews.com, Marcos Maidana said he will crack Floyd Mayweather with a “brutal shot” and “finish him.”

Maidana (35-3, 31 KOs) is slated to meet the 37-year-old Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) on May 3 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

“We all know (Mayweather) is a great champion but I’m training hard for the best Mayweather,” said Maidana, 30, who was selected as an opponent over Amir Khan.

“I hit very hard. Every time I land a solid punch, I hurt my opponents and then I go for the knockout. That will be the case with Mayweather. When I hit him with a brutal shot, I will finish him!”

A powerful and beloved Argentinean, Maidana (35-3, 31 KOs) clearly bettered Adrien Broner in December to capture the WBA welterweight title.

According to the Associated Press, Maidana officially trumped the 24-year-old Broner (27-1, 22 KOs) by counts of 115-110, 116-109 and 117-109.

“El Chino” outworked Broner and floored the loudmouth in the second and eighth rounds.

Maidana, who is also a former junior welterweight titleholder, was far more active than Broner and landed crippling blows throughout the 36-minute fistfight.

“Mayweather is a much faster fighter (than Broner). He knows how to utilize the ring and is very well experienced,” said Maidana. “Broner has a similar style but is not the same fighter. Mayweather is more mature.”

Meanwhile, in a truly brilliant outing, Mayweather earned a majority decision over Mexican powerhouse Saul Alvarez on September 14 to gain the WBC light middleweight belt.

Although the 23-year-old Alvarez (43-1-1, 30 KOs) didn’t perform poorly and consistently forced the action, Mayweather landed flush shots that rattled and slowed the youngster.

Mayweather’s a defensive virtuoso and one of the premier pugilists in history.

Accordingly, Maidana will be fortunate to ever “hit (Mayweather) with a brutal shot.”

In an extremely lopsided match, expect a “very well experienced” Floyd Mayweather to shutout Marcos Maidana on the cards next month in “Sin City.”
