Marcos Maidana deserves a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Leonard Ellerbe told Monday night that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will return to the squared circle versus an opponent to be determined on Sept. 13.

If Floyd Mayweather Jr. refuses to again battle “El Chino,” a bare-knuckle fistfight pitting Marcos Maidana versus Justin Bieber would be epic.

In an enthralling prizefight, the 37-year-old Mayweather (46-0, 26 KOs) earned a majority decision over Marcos Maidana on May 3.

Mayweather (46-0, 26 KOs) officially overcame the 30-year-old Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) by counts of 117-111, 116-112 and 114-114 to unify welterweight world titles.

Maidana, a powerful and beloved Argentinean who entered as a 12-to-1 underdog, fought aggressively, muscled Mayweather against the ropes, and relentlessly launched wild overhand rights.

According to CompuBox, Mayweather was struck by Maidana more times than by any other opponent in his fabled career as a defensive virtuoso.

Unfortunately for Argentina and “El Chino,” Maidana rarely landed flush shots and Mayweather consistently countered and connected with solid left hooks and lead right hands.

"Floyd will go on Sept. 13 and we looking at who he's going to fight and where he is going to fight," said Ellerbe, the chief executive of Mayweather Promotions.

"(Maidana’s) a very dirty fighter. He used a lot of dirty tactics, but Floyd handled him easily and he gave the fans a great fight. But there's a long list of opponents. Everybody wants to be in the Floyd Mayweather sweepstakes. Several guys have made it clear they want to be next."

Considering the lack of appealing options, and the fact that the sport’s pound-for-pound king avoids Manny Pacquiao like anthrax, Mayweather should give Maidana a rematch.

Ellerbe knows that Mayweather didn’t “(handle Maidana) easily.”

“A very dirty fighter or not,” Marcos Maidana deserves to again throw fists with Floyd Mayweather this autumn on Mexican Independence Day weekend in Sin City.
