Hollywood lost one its own today. According to an Oct. 26 report by Hollywood Reporter, Marcia Wallace has died. The actress was best known for her roles on “The Bob Newhart Show”, “Murphy Brown” and “The Simpsons”.
The 70 year old actress had been battling breast cancer for over three decades. However, over the past several months her condition had deteriorated significantly. The response of her colleagues has been heart warming, and many have issued statements praising her work and mourning her passing.
I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace. She was beloved by all at The Simpsons and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character," Al Jean, executive producer of “The Simpsons”.
Cheers to the hilarious, kind, fab Marcia Wallace, who has taken her leave of us. Heaven is now a much funnier place b/c of you, Marcia," Yeardley Smith’s, voice of Lisa Simpson, tweet from Saturday.
Ironically, “The Simpsons” has been advertising that a character will be killed off this season. However, Al Jean has stated that it was not intended to be Edna Krabappel, and the death of Marcia Wallace was a regretful and unrelated event.
