The organization March on Washington for Gun Control, which will be rallying today, Jan. 26, in Washington, D.C., announced this morning that the final leg of the march and the program of speakers and performers will be streamed live on the Internet by the Maryland Theatre Guide. The program is scheduled to go live at 12:30 p.m.
March organizers expect several thousand participants at the march, which begins at the Capitol Reflecting Pool at 10:00 a.m. and ends at the Washington Monument with speeches and music.
Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced yesterday that he and his family will join the march. Actress Kathleen Turner, Virginia Tech shooting survivor Colin Goddard and One Million Moms for Gun Control founder Shannon Watts will be among those speaking at the event.
The March on Washington for Gun Control was organized by Molly Smith and Suzanne Blue Star Boy through social media and the website guncontrolmarch.com, which went online shortly after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. According to organizers, about 100 Newtown residents will be attending the Washington rally.
Additional rallies, organized by chapters of One Million Moms for Gun Control, are scheduled to take place today in cities across the nation, including San Francisco, Boston and Indianapolis.
