For dog fanciers in upstate NY, March means the big Salt City dog show cluster the end of the month with four days of conformation, agility, obedience and rally all offered at the State Fairgrounds. It is nice to have chances to practice ahead of time - fine tuning your performance and giving young dogs a less hectic place for a debut.
Two area dog clubs are providing those opportunities with upcoming matches. On March 3, the Finger Lakes Kennel Club, in conjunction with the Ithaca Dog Training Club, will offer a "full service" match at the Oxley Equestrian Center at 220 Pine Tree Rd. in Ithaca. Canine Good Citizen tests will be offered and there will agility demos and "meet the breed" stations for spectators. FLKC will offer a full set of conformation classes, including junior and adult handling. Meanwhile IDTC will offer all rally and obedience titling classes as a show and go at the same site. Flyers for the two partnered events and entry forms can be found here.
Then, on March 17, put on your best green outfit and head for the Onondaga Kennel Association match to be held at the SOTC building in Syracuse. Conformation and obedience will be offered. Those "wearing the green" will be eligible for a special raffle prize. Flyers and entry forms can be found here. OKA will also offer Canine Good Citizen Testing.
